SUMMARY:
Love in the time of
cholera is a novel that speaks of love and its many variants. It describes the
passage of time which destroys and reconstructs souls and cities. The story is
set in a city of Cartagena de India’s between late 19th century and early 20th
century. The novel is based on the life of his parents: Gabriel
Garcia Marquez. Garcia Marquez, met extensively and separately with
his parents for details of how he would write the novel. The story unfolds in the course
of the seventy years of life of the three main characters, Fermina Daza,
Florentino Ariza and doctor Juvenal Urbino. This is a story that is not linear
as it travels through time with memories of the characters. The theme is
touching as the author stresses transcendental issues in the life of man, such
as family, friendship, fidelity, conjugal cohabitation, and love in the
different stages of life, using a broadly descriptive language.
RECOMMENDATION:
Gabriel García Márquez is one of the greatest novelists of the 20th century. His writing is considered the key renewal of literature in Spanish and figure of the so-called magic realism. In 1982, he was granted the Nobel Prize in literature. In this novel we learn and open the eyes that were once closed, a work that helps and makes looking at life in a different way, where each facet is known to give it life. This work shows the true love that can exist between two re-enacts. We can see that when this is pure and sincere any obstacle may be overcome. Within the work stand values such as: loyalty, perseverance and respect. Fermina represents the reality of our society, which is full of prejudices and malicious people who discriminate between social classes due to the economic differences. Another aspect present in the work is perseverance. Fight for what you truly want. No matter how much time it takes destiny will prevail.
