SUMMARY:
‘’Sous la Cendre le
Feu’’ is a book
about Mina, a woman who feels insane. Hospitalized and isolated, that Cameroonian
realizes that she is sinking into foolishness. In the book, a psychiatrist Dr
Lobe encouraged her to reconnect the thread of her wounded past. Her madness
starts when she knew that her husband Djimibri raped Fanny their daughter. Also,
her husband cheated on the main character of the book with her sister Essebe. The
author shows us there the status of African women, both wife and mother. This status
is torn between tradition and modernity. Mina wanted to be faithful to the
tradition and also be a good modern woman. However, she has to choose just one
of them because of the community. The customs were the solely option she has. As
far as she was telling her story, she gets over her madness.
