SUMMARY:
This Book is a reflection about the history and identity of
the Mexicans. This book describes how Mexican becomes stuck in a world of
solitude. The Mexicans try to find the identity and try to change their attire
by using images, symbols, traditions, religion, and masks. In this book, Octavio
Paz analyzes Mexican society. The Mexican has a language that reflects the
Machism and closely demonstrates their character to the world. Furthermore, the
Mexican hides behind their masks to hide their lies and loneliness.
In every corner of Mexico, people like to use any kind of
excuse to celebrate such as festivals like The Day of Dead, Independence Day
etc. The author analyzes the other side of the stage in Mexican history,
describing the movements, facts, events, and ideologies.
The religion of the Aztecs was a religion where people
worshiper the Sun. However, the people from Spain followed Christianity, and
they came to evangelize the people of Mexico. The Mexicans have not found the
way to take off these masks of their old ways; they need to face reality and
start living and thinking the truth.
